Butterfly Day!

This morning when we got to school we made a discovery:
Our butterfly had hatched!

To celebrate we have had a Butterfly Day!
We practised our doubles by doing some butterfly maths, we did some butterfly writing, our reading was a poem about butterflies, we watched a video about the butterfly lifecycle and we also did some beautiful butterfly art.

Week 7, Term 2

On Fridays we do all our learning in Learning Common 1. We do PINs (Passions, Interests, Needs workshops). This week some of our workshops were:

"My favourite PINs workshop was making playdough. I liked making it and playing with it" - Elizabeth

"My favourite part of the playdough workshop was helping Elizabeth make a snail." - Maia

"I played Touch Rugby and I scored a try! I got a sticker and a stamp. Diego said I was really good." - Rhys

"I loved Polynesian dancing! It was very, very fun." - Joy

"My favourite part of the music and dance workshop was when I listening to some music and when I played a whistle." - Poppy

"My favourite part of dancing was showing everyone the dance." - Eloise

"I learnt how to draw all sorts of 3D shapes. I knew how to draw a 3d circle. It was not really easy for me but somebody showed me how." - Casey

Week 6, Term 2

Reflections from this week in the Zoom Room:

"This week Eileen was our teacher for a few days. We showed her what we do in the Zoom Room. We made rockets with shapes on them. We did writing about Greedy Cat because we have been reading about Greedy Cat."

Bubble Trouble is still our favourite shared book and it has been requested that we read it again next week!

Creative play continues with the blocks being used to build furniture for the Zoom Room. Now we just need a table!

Week 5, Term 2

This week we were fascinated by our caterpillar becoming a chrysalis. On Monday morning Mr Caterpillar still looked like a caterpillar but he was hanging in a j shape. On Tuesday morning when we came to school we had a beautiful green chrysalis hanging on our Swan Plant.

Joy said
"It's magic! He is a chrysalis now!"

"The chrysalis is green like the leaves so that birds can't see it. They won't be able to eat it."
Said Casey.

"That means it's camouflage!" Rhys told us.

"It has beautiful gold spots" Noticed Becky.

For independent maths this week we did some building using blocks, mobilo and the train tracks. We used mathematical language such as:
bigger, smaller, longer, shorter, longest, shortest, more, less, tall, taller, wide.

This evolved into imaginative play and the buildings soon became shops that the children were selling all sorts of things from. Favourites were icecreams and chocolates. They made signs and pretended to pay money and give change for the items they were buying and selling.

These activities help to develop their contextual mathematical understandings, their oral language and interpersonal skills, as well as their confidence and imagination.
